In 2008 all we heard from our 9 year old Son Liam was I would love a Dog. Now myself being the only Dog lover in our family this was a quite laugh! both my kids were petrified of dogs. So one of our
friends’s had a small dog so we went out for a walk with them and the kid’s loved it.
This was the decision time what dog to have, I wanted a Labrador, Helen my
wife wanted a small dog, but for once the Boss did not win!So we both decided on a medium sized dog, Helen and I both spent a lot of time looking and researching different Breeds and Helen found the Irish terrier. I was very impressed in what I saw !,I was
secretly very pleased as knowing terriers were quite a handful, and not wanting a lap dog I knew it would be a challenge.
I then looked everywhere for some puppies including
the Kennel Club, but no one had any Litters so I then spoke to Anne Bradley at the Irish Terrier Association, and she told me about Jean, so we got in contact and arranged to come and see the puppies. When we got there we were greeted by Mac and Mina the Parents
of the pups, this was the moment Mia my daughter leapt 2 ft off the floor into my arms and started crying, I thought this is a great start !.After 20 minutes or so Mia calmed down and was very good with them and loved all the puppies and Liam wanted to take
them all home, It was time to choose and Rotterdam Red (Billy) was the choice for us all, also knowing that they had the Mum and the Father is a big yes I think for any future buyer .
We went back to Jean’s 3 times in total to see Billy so Liam and Mia could get used to him. Billy is now 10 months old and full of fun and mischief he is so cheeky and affectionate he is so good with children we have been truly blessed with
him !He is a great lover of shoes so we do have to keep an eye on the shoes. In the evening when the children have gone to bed Billy will come over jump up and lay across one of our laps just his front paws and chest and lie there for as long as 20 minutes
then get down and go to the other he is such a loving dog.
I would recommend anyone to have an Irish Terrier as they are very loyal and such good fun, they are a challenge
but very intelligent dogs so treat them as such, people say if you are having a first dog don’t have a Irish Terrier ....I totally disagree !! It was the best move we ever made and am very grateful to Jean
