In October 2010 Hayley and I got married; we were starting our family home and really wanted a dog. I have always liked the Kerry Blue Terrier and was searching for one however they are very hard to come by. As I was doing my research I come across the Irish
Terrier which was the exact same dog with a different coat.
Researching more I can across Van Leeuwen Irish Terrier web site and started to read about the Irish Terrier and as I was reading I thought to myself this is the dog for our family. I filled in the application form on line and received a call from Jean that
Jean called and started to explain about his Kennel and explained that he only had 2 dog’s left in the litter, he invited Hayley and I down to see the puppies that Sunday. Sunday morning came both Hayley and I were getting excited about seeing the puppies,
we jumped in the car and headed off down to Deal to meet with Jean.
On arrival we were greeted by Mister Mac, Mina and Alfie the puppies mum. Jean welcomed us into his home and delivered two puppies down to the room that we were in along with Mac, Mina and Alfie. Mac was straight over head on my lap with signs of his morning
activities on his nose but straight away Hayley and I were both in love with these dogs. We had a great chat with Jean who was so informative about the Irish Terrier giving us all the knowledge we would need with regards to owning and Irish Terrier.
From this moment on we were proud owners of Mister Caesar and part of the Van Leeuwen club. We waited around 3 weeks before we could pick our boy up and those 3 weeks could not come quick enough. The day had come to go get our boy snow on the ground was
not stopping us from making the journey to Deal, armed with blankets and dog cage off we went. We arrived at Jean’s house and were welcomed again in to his home, Jean took time to show us all that had been done with our boy and gave us a starter pack along
with vets paperwork and the micro chip details. Jean asked us if we had a name for our boy and Hayley said that his name was Hector, we had our photo taken for the web page new owners of litter C and off we went back to our home not before asking Jean if he
would be able to Kennel Hector in January whilst we were away on our Honeymoon and without hesitation Jean said he would love to have him.
We arrived home with Hector and the first things we did was take Hector to visit our families were every one fell in love with him especially Hayley and my niece’s Kelsey & Freya. Hector went everywhere with us and enjoyed his 1st Christmas at
the mother in-laws house where he was treated to a Christmas dinner.
Going out with Hector gets a lot of attention People asking what he is, there have been a few occasions where his breed was know, training classes were good fun and worth doing. Hector has a good character and is really good around children, he loves visiting
new places and has now grown in to a very strong dog and I can go to work with peace in my mind that he is there for the family.
Just recently we had a new arrival to our family our son Thomas and we were curious to how hector would take to him, who needs baby monitors when you have an Irish Terrier in the house, any noise from Thomas room Hector is straight there and lets us know
to. The other noticeable thing now is dinner time for Thomas, Hector is there waiting for anything dropped.
We are very pleased that Hector has been chosen to stud for the Van Leeuwen Kennel and thanks to Jean for this opportunity. The support Jean has given and still gives to us in getting the best out of our Irish Terrier has been what make me proud to have
chosen this breed and we look forward to supporting the kennels on continuing there lines in years to come.
